SPRINKLERS

How do I set my Gilmour impulse sprinkler?

All our impulse sprinklers adjust in essentially the same way. Each of these sprinklers features a trip mechanism in which a lever that protrudes downward from the back of the spray head controls the direction of the sprinkler’s turn.

The sprinkler has two trip arms, each of which trips the lever and causes the sprinkler to reverse directions. For full-circle coverage, flip the trip lever into the upward position so that it will not come into contact with the trip arms.

Coverage

To narrow the sprinkler’s coverage, move the two trip arms toward the trip lever from opposite sides. The closer together you place the two stop pins on either side of the trip lever, the narrower the pattern will become.

To set your sprinkler for a specific area, try the following method:

  1. Plant the sprinkler in the desired location (often a corner or an edge).
  2. Point the front of the spray head (the end with the diffuser pin) toward the center of the area to be watered.
  3. Position the trip arms on either side of the trip lever, about a half inch apart.
  4. Turn on the water and observe the sprinkler’s coverage.
  5. Stand behind the sprinkler and move one stop pin at a time to widen the pattern, observing how the coverage area changes with each adjustment.
  6. Continue adjusting until you achieve the desired coverage.

DISTANCE CONTROL
1.  Plant the sprinkler in the desired location (often a corner or an edge).
2.  Point the front of the spray head (the end with the diffuser pin) toward the center of the area to be watered.
3. Turn dial on top of sprinkler head to control distance.
4. Stand behind the sprinkler observing how the coverage area changes with each adjustment.
5. Stand behind the sprinkler observing how the coverage area changes with each adjustment.
6. Continue adjusting until you achieve the desired distance.

How do I set my Gilmour oscillating sprinkler?

OSCILLATING SPRINKLERS WITH TWO RED ADJUSTMENT RINGS:

Each of the red rings on these sprinklers is responsible for limiting the travel of  the oscillator in one direction. The arrow on the dial indicates which direction that ring is responsible for.

The ring nearest the spray tube controls movement to the left (when you are facing the sprinkler from the hose end). For maximum swing to the left, turn this ring in the positive (+) direction. To reduce coverage to the left, turn it in the negative (-) direction.

The ring nearest the motor housing controls travel to the right. To get more coverage to the right, turn this ring in the positive (+) direction. To reduce coverage to the right, turn it in the negative (-) direction.

OSCILLATING SPRINKLERS WITH SINGLE DIAL:

In order to understand how the adjustment on these sprinklers works, it is important to understand what is meant by “LEFT” and “RIGHT.” RIGHT refers to the user’s right when facing the sprinkler from the end where the hose is connected. The following are descriptions of the coverage you will get in various positions:

CENTER—The oscillator will swing within a narrow range (a few feet) in both directions from center.
RIGHT—The oscillator will travel from center to the furthest right position.
FULL—The oscillator will cover its full range (from all the way left to all the way right).
LEFT—The oscillator will swing from center to the furthest left position.
